Comparison sites

With so many travel web sites out there, there simply isn't time to check and compare each one yourself. Comparison web sites do the legwork for you by going to various other travel sites and reporting their findings back to you. For hunting the cheapest flights, hotels, car hire or other travel services they are an invaluable time saving tool. This article provides an extensive list of the travel comparison sites out there.

There are an increasing number of comparison sites on the web. They tend to get their income from fees paid as a result of you clicking on a link to another site.

A list of comparison sites I have used recently and some of the areas they cover are given below:

Site Flights Hotels Car Hire Also covers
Compare the Market

Travel insurance, car hire insurance, airport parking, European breakdown, train tickets

Holiday packages

Cruises, Travel insurance, airport parking, skiing, holiday packages

Holiday packages

Travel Supermarket

Go to Google’s comparison site list for an even bigger list, though many of these may cover areas other than travel.

Tips when using comparison sites:

1. Each comparison site searches a fixed number of suppliers who they have agreements with.  So once you’ve searched on one or two sites, there are diminishing returns. As the comparison sites tend to have many of their agreements with the same suppliers.

2. Check the prices and conditions your self for any deals reported by comparison sites. There may be something that you haven't spotted.

3. If you have some flexibility then play around with factors such as dates / times to get a picture of what affects the cost your travel.

Helping you on your journey.
